Win Something!

I can’t tell you how I was able to pull this off but Lifeway is allowing me to provide a prize for our little guessing game!

That’s right! All you lucky people reading this have the chance to enter! Except you Thom Rainer, you can’t enter!

To win, all you have to do is guess the theme for 2011 VBS. I know what you’re thinking, “That’s why I’m here, Donny. I want YOU to tell ME the theme for 2011 VBS!”

My response to that is: Don’t think that! You don’t have to guess the actual theme, you just have to submit a guess here on my blog. By simply guessing, your name is put in the drawing. But you only get one guess per email address!

If you want, you can read the “official rules” here: Official VBS Theme Sweepstakes Rules

The lucky winner will receive a 2011 VBS sampler. Kinda like this one from Saddle Ridge Ranch:

So let’s get started!

My immediate thought was circus theme or celebration. Balloons and confetti together remind me of a ticker tape parade. All the big balloon characters. But due to the fact that we have many men and women fighting in a war to protect our freedom and the fact that the very mention of God is being attacked from every direction, I think a patriotic theme celebrating our freedom to worship our Lord & Savior.

Did anyone notice that in the video, Donny asked “which one of THESE” could it be. Did he give us the answer? 243. Scott Pack says:

Could it be Titanic? Was suppose to get to New York.

  244. I think it’s a theme very like Fantasy Island…where everyone gets to live their fantasy with their favorite things (places), but along the way, they learn that there is nothing more important than Jesus.

  245. Sonya says:

My first guess was rock star now I think a circus theme

  246. Paige Nelson says:

    A circus theme!

  247. My first thought was of a circus. But it could be hot air balloons-Up and Away with Jesus!

  248. Kathy O says:

Now that I’ve spotted the Double Decker bus in the lower left corner (England) and after looking at those lights which look like the kind strung on a cruise ship, the theme is a cruise from England to New York. Ride down the Mississippi in a Riverboat. Riverboat Run!

Big balloons, confetti, Sinatra Street, Franktown. I am thinking that New York is involved!

    I’m thinking county fair!

I saw where Marsha had won the first sampler with “High School Musical/Hannah Montana theme”…hmmm…maybe something to do with a stage or park, lots of MUSIC!

  263. Tiffany Coker says:

    Coney Island theme perhaps?

  264. Melanie Hodge says:

I think it will be a trip around the world. Searching the wonders of Jesus.

  265. Annica Cook says:

Did you see the address on the letter (FRANKtown, SINATRA street) and the apple and Empire State Building on the table? We are obviously going to NEW YORK, NY–the “Big” Apple, “Hot Dog” Vendors, Ticker-Tape Parades (Confetti), Wall Street ($50 bills/money). Donny is wearing aviator goggles and “Viator” tours is the group that runs the observatory at the Empire State Building.

    • Annica Cook says:

In the first video when Donny does the “Everybody loves…” thing he holds up an apple and mentions taxi drivers and lawyers. New York (the Big Apple) is full of taxi drivers and lawyers. Did you notice the letters P, B, I, A on the wall behind him? I wonder if those are the initials for the theme?

      • Annica Cook says:

And it was mentioned above that the “big balloons” with hot air could be the balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.

      • Annica Cook says:

Even’s Donny’s blog is called: The I ♥ VBS Blog. As in I ♥ NY.

I can’t wait for next year!

  278. Melissa Breaux says:

Put it somewhere else – where do we put this? My guess is New York State Fair.

  279. Lenora says:

High School Carnival …. maybe like Grease, or a Glee Club theme ….

  280. Janice Moore says:

Ok we are going along with the gang, looks like maybe the carnival theme

  281. angela jenkins says:

Based on the letters found in the background in the videos, it spells BIG APPLE!

  282. Joanna McBride says:

I think we will be “soaring high” in 2011. Hot air ballons, airplanes! It could be a carnival theme too. Lots of good guesses! Whatever it is, I am sure it will be a blast.

  283. Lenora says:

    New York State Fair ….

  284. Summer Moore says:

I think maybe a Broadway theme or pop culture theme.

  295. Alayanna says:

    Circus theme Love it!

  296. Ada says:

When I saw that the first clue was a balloon I thought about Hot Air Balloon travels to different locations. Then the second clue was a hot dog and I was thinking maybe circus theme Under the Big Top. Whatever it is I’m sure it will be awesome just like all of the others. Each year I think they will never be able to out do this years theme but they always do!

  307. Julie says:

    I think it’s a New York Theme!

  308. Brandy says:

I’m pretty sure it will be a carnival theme :)

  309. Sonia Sumpter says:

I think it is a carnival or fair theme. I think this would be so much fun and the kids would LOVE it!

  310. Deborah Thompson says:

Donny, I agree with the person who said you should get an allergy shot so you can get in that building to find out the theme for us. The suspense is killing us!! I’m still going with the circus/carnival or big world’s fair, or a Macy’s style parade in a big city. Still enjoying getting ready for our Saddle Ridge Ranch VBS. Keep the clues coming!!

  311. Crystal says:

    Party for Jesus.

  312. Crystal says:

Party for Jesus – Carnival Style

    Fair/ theme park theme.

  317. LightheartedinTexas says:

Well, the money is throwing me for a loop, but the ballon + BIG still says circus to me.
The Big Top, ballons, plus you need money to buy hot dogs & cotton candy. Okay that maybe a strech. Work with me here! :)

  318. Brenda says:

How about, “Rock Star Cruise Celebration”

    Jesus is our rock!

  319. Cindy says:

Around the world with Jesus, using a hot air balloon. Kinda like around the world in 80 days. I just don’t see the musical side of it.

I’m thinking maybe a circus theme because of the balloon, confetti, hot dog, and money. My church’s SSR starts this Sunday. I can hardly wait!

  327. Rachelle Prince says:

I think it is some type of Fair. Whether it is county, state or world’s, I’m not sure.

  328. Annica Cook says:

Anyone notice the name of Donny’s Blog? I ♥ VBS [I ♥ NY]

And what do these letters spell? Video 1: PBIA; Video 2: GELP

    BIG APPLE

    Manhattan–Here we come!

  329. Neil Cosgrove says:

Pirates. Lots and lots of pirates. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg!

  330. Kathy O says:

“Berth” day – It’s got to be a cruise ship. The ringing sounds like an elevator (lots of decks on a cruise ship) and those lights look like the kind on a cruise ship. Maybe the money part means all-inclusive and you don’t need money on a cruise. “Cruise”ade for Christ. You sure don’t need money to get into the kingdom of heaven because if you are saved, you have already been bought and your sin debt has been paid in full by Christ’s own sacrifice.

  331. Julie G. says:

Using the clues I would venture a theme with hot air balloons. Possibly “Soaring high with Christ.”

  332. Patty Clark says:

VBS 2010 was a blast.I think that 2011 may be a circus. That might be fun.

Did anyone else notice that the Good News Stampede & Mt. Extreme are NOT listed in the collage outline of this website? Hmmmm…

  336. julie says:

The theme for next year is New York. The letters in the back ground spell out Big Apple. The hot dog is for the hot dog stands. the balloons and confetti are from time square on new years eve. Money is from wall street. the ships going in and out of the harbour. This is my guess. and the music would be from Boradway shows.

  337. Stephanie Deyo says:

    Carnival!!! State Fair theme!!

  338. Beth Moss says:

Around the world in 5 days – a take off from the movie Around the World in 80 days.

I am ready for something a little more difficult…

    Like Root Beer Floats

    or

A Carpenters Theme with music from the Carpenters and fun woodworking projects

Or we could just go with a Great Lakes Theme… Camping and Hiking and so on…

  349. Carol Gilmore says:

My guess is that we will do a hot air ballon race around the world…like around the world in 80 days or rather 5 days in the case of VBS! Take off from New Mexico and stop in 5 countries.

  350. Carol Gilmore says:

Around the World in 5 days in a Hot Air Balloon!

    Around the World with Jesus

I do believe we might be heading down to the Amazon into the jungle.
One week till we’re on Saddle Ridge, yipee!!!

  353. Jennifer Johnson says:

I think it is a carnival theme.

  354. Kathy O says:

Now I’m thinking it’s just New York. Those lights could stand for the lights on the ball that drops on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Maybe the theme has something to do with “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, your restless refuse from your teeming shores. Send these the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Much like Jesus calls us all to him – the sinners poor and needy, weak and wounded, sick and sore. I guess the ringing could be the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building (which is on the table). And the berth (in birthday) could mean the berth for the ships that brought the all of immigrants to America.

  355. Amy Beyer says:

I think the clues mean that we will be going on a hot air balloon ride to New York City and discovering that God is our pilot.

Hot air balloons rides. Going to different places each day

  357. tricia myers says:

It isn’t too much fun to venture a guess after it seems almost definately as if it is a NYC theme. You know, it would be fun to have the first round of guessing be for the VBS theme, and the second round for the Club VBS theme. Maybe club VBS will be that county fair theme mentioned. That would work great for our small church and be a lot of fun too!

  358. For some reason they deleted my last post. Maybe too close a guess? Clues: Big balloon, Hot dog + air= Big Hot Air Balloon. As I said in my first post 2 days ago, It is a Hot air balloon theme “Around the World in ( ) Days”. The articles in the lower front of the videos indicate traveling to England (bus), New York (Empire State Bld. Apple), Australia (Koala), Latin America (Little fella with hat)? Maybe Texas (cow bell). Motto? GELP = Going Everywhere Loving People? Haven’t quite figured out PBIA yet.

  359. Tracey-Ann says:

    An Amusement Park Theme.

  360. Melissa Reeves says:

With the first clue, I thought Party theme with the ballon and confetti. With the second clue, I am praying for hot air ballon theme!!!

  361. Lori Burgess says:

A hot air balloon. It sounds like a carnival or theme park theme. I remember when we did Rambling Road Trip, the kids’ favorite place to “visit” was the theme park. Decorating ideas are already floating around in my head.

  362. Vicki says:

I would love the theme to be a hot air balloon trip; perhaps to visit missionaries. Unfortunately the clues all seem to point toward a New York/Big Apple theme (not my first choice). Oh well, we will use whatever theme emerges, to the best of our ability, to reach kids for Christ.

  363. Kim Jewett says:

A big, hot air balloon fiesta!

  364. pamela says:

still thinking of Amusement Park or Hot Air Balloon park, or a journey around the world as a Musical tour telling everyone about how JESUS gives us LOVE and teach them how to share HIS love with others…. in England, Italy, a State Fair, Broadway perhaps…. just to name a few……still has me thinking.

  369. Lisa H says:

Just finished SRR – it was an awesome week!!!!
The whole ranch/church was booming with excitement.
I can’t wait until Monday to hear what next year’s theme is – this guessing is driving me CRAZY !!!!!

  375. Tammy Bass says:

Many have said a Hot air balloon race, but (even though I wish) I don’t think confetti has anything to do with hot air balloons. (I used to crew for a few).
Not too sure, but I think it must be more of a party or Fiesta theme. They haven’t done that for Lifeway yet.
i was thinking it might be a High School Musical Theme, but, again, not sure how the confetti & air-filled balloon fit in.

  376. Louise Houston says:

Let’s go to the Circus!!!! The big top, elephants, clowns, and cotton candy!

  377. Kathy Mead says:

I think it could be something with hot air balloons or space. My friend would like for it to be a Mexican fiesta.

hot air balloon traveling around the world.

  379. Cathy Ingram says:

I think it’s a birthday party or carnival.

Hallo! It’s Germany! The mole sent a clue of a BIG balloon which I think = blimp. Clue #2 is a hot dog = Frankfurt. Confetti, juggling (from the first video), and money could all be found at a festival like spring fair in Frankfurt or Carnival! That would be a great VBS!

OK, I have to now hop on the Big Apple bandwagon. I think it’s going to be places around NY – you’ve got the hot dog carts, the big balloons in the parades, the confetti for Times Square, you have to spend money there….then there was the apple on Donny’s desk and the small Empire State Building.
Looking forward to tomorrow when the suspense will be over and we’ll finally get the news.
